Not knowing what we were up against, we showed up in KY after driving 10 hours from extreme south alabama, to the LBL Jeep Jamboree. Our jeep is an 1997 4cyl with trac loc rear end and 4.10 gears, & 31 inch mud tires. Thats it nothing special. I had never driven off-road before, neither had my co-driver and father. An official came by. looked over our jeep and told us which trails we could take and recommended the tougher ones for us to have the most fun. We took their advise and will never forget the first hill, let alone the next 2 days. It was an experience of a lifetime. My dad is 62 and he will never forget this, and neither will I. I had no idea what a basically stock tj was capable of and with the right instructions from the guide, we never got stuck, and even pulled a few folks out. They tought us how to go up and down unbelievable hills/mountains. We never spun a tire, and stayed on the edge of our seats the entire time. It was incredible. We will be back this year to do another event, and plan on bringing more jeepers from our area. It could not have been a better experience. The food and guides were first class.

I would have to agree with the other reviewer that the Jeep Jamboree events are rather expensive. Especially, if you plan to take another family member. But, on the other hand, they feed you around 7 times and the prizes on the last day were very nice.
It was my first organized Jeep event and I had a great time. The guides were all really great and helful in some precarious situations.
Granted, if your used to serious rock-crawling, it wasn't probably the event for you.
But, I had a blast and really enjoyed hanging out with all of the other Jeepers for the weekend.

Customer Rating Why spend $100 when you could spend $350? ;-)

I had very high expectations of JJ. I went with a friend who had been to several, and spoke highly of them. We moved out to NC from about 1 hour from Turkey Bay (I had 'wheeled there plenty of times) and made the 12 hour trek from Raleigh to attend our first Jamboree... we didn't know it would be our last.

I learned how to wheel at the school of hard rocks, and attended several professional-run 4x4 events and 4x4 club rides. This was not my first off-road experience, and my vehicle was outfitted fairly well (they said that they would not allow vehicles with more than 3" lift or 33" tires attend the event, but wanted to keep me from riding the more advanced trails because I *only* had 33" tires and a 3" lift... go figure!

The trails at LBL were marginal, the event was a little less "wired tight" than I expected, and the cost was the most expensive of any 4x4 event I've ever been to. I have yet to go to a JJ again.

Perhaps they are good events for people who just can't find a good 4x4 club in their area, or have no access to 4x4 trails or events - I think Jeep Jamborees are overrated and over-priced, however.

LBL is a fun place to go for a casual weekend of light-to-medium-difficulty trailriding, but it lacks the scenery, historical/geographical interest, or challenge of most of the JJ locations.
