This is not your 8274. You can't beat the snot out of it . Leave it in the rain and expect it to work. All the people complaining about free spool. Do yourself a favor and crack that thing open. I mean take it completely apart. Its actually not that complicated (it can be a pain to align due to weight and all those planetary gears not meshing right away). Mine was basically brand new when I popped it open to change out the little 2 gauge for 0 gauge because I moved my battery to the back (narrowed the front end of my rig). There was a disturbingly low amount of grease. It is like they just took a brush and applied only one coat on everything. It was DRY. You read a lot of people on the forums cracking their open after they stop working and noticing the internals are all rusted out...no grease once again. Once you get passed this issue this thing is really fast. I honestly wish it was slower like its 12k powerplant cousin. It is really noisy, I don't care for all that noise. I might crack it open again to make sure everything is holding up well.

Customer Rating Tough winch

I've been stuck sideways off an ice bridge with a 41 degree angle. 2 wheel on ice and 2 in water/mud and this tough little winch pulled me out no problemo.

The only reason it doesn't have 10 star in this review is that

1) The front plates was rusty looking after less than 3 months of owning it.
2) The motor doesn't stop pulling immediately when you release the remote. THat's a pain when you are spooling in.

Other than that i'd say what are you waiting for? Get it... NOW...

Customer Rating Good but could be better

First I must say that it is a good looking winch, but who buys a winch based soley on looks? Mine does perform well but will not free spool. It must be powered out and is extremly noisy when doing so. I have changed the winch line to a synthetic cable to save on the weight and also for the added safety that goes along with that. The winch has never been submerged under water, and is throughly cleaned after exposure to mud and or dust. I thought by doing this it would elieviate any problems such as free spooling or a stuck lever. I was wrong.

Customer Rating Has always gotten me out of everything it helped get me into

This winch has made me bold beyond reason when it comes to playing in the mud. It has always gotten me out and I have had to dig down through the mud to even find it. However, after several months of hard use I could not longer flip the lever to free spool. I had a dealer work on it and now the lever will move, but it takes all of my weight (220 lbs) to pull the line out. What a pain! So, I have to power in and out. This has caused the winch to overheat and shut down (thank you thermal protectors). Dealer told me it would work itself out in time with use. BS I need a winch to free spool mine out, I guess I'll just have to rebuild it myself.

Customer Rating Winch Left Me Stuck

My jeep was buried in mud and I hooked my cable high on a tree to pull upwards on the front..half way out the winch split apart on the left side and tore the big teflon bushing the centers the drum..it will not engage now..the small screws that holds it together only threads into aluminum and it pulled the threads right out..could of been designed a little better...wouldn't of had this problem with my old mx8000..my brother ended up pulling me out with his old junk ramsey winch...

I think the winch looks great and performs nicely.

In the two years I have had it, I have had two problems. First, after about 6 months I could no longer disengage the winch to free-spool mode. I ended up sending it in for warranty work, where they did repair the winch. The second issue is the finish is corroding and peeling along the front face of the winch. Warn won't do anything about this, except recommend that I paint it!

My previous winch was a M8000. It was less fancy, but never had a problem in 2-3 years of owning it. No repairs or painting ever needed.

Customer Rating Solid winch

I have had the 9.5ti winch now for quite some time, I have used it in many situation and conditions, and even submerged, and it has yet to let me down. after two heavily salted New England winters uncovered, the finish has not a single belemish, or corrosion.

I would recommend this winch for the avid off roader to the hard core crawler, but for a competition level winch, I would suggest the warn 8274 for it's quicker line speed.

Customer Rating It's does the job but...

The winch is fast and has a brand name on it but didn't care for it.

1. Too fast to control when trying to bring a Jeep back on to it's top.
2. Doesn't stop pulling after you release the switch.

This would be a great winch if you could only control the speed and it would actually stop pulling when you release it. Not fond of hitting reverse on the motor.

Basically only had the winch 3 months or so. Used it a couple of times and then the snow hit. I didn't have good tires yet so I found myself winching alot more than others. Kept right on pulling with no problems. Two full pulls with no issues. Great product.

Customer Rating Not Sealed as well as they say
Date: Sep 24, 2004

The winch is fast and strong. Warn claims it is the best sealed winch ever, but my experiences do not agree with that statement. I have had the winch for 9 months, and only used it a handfull of times. I have never gotten it wet/muddy/sandy. The most water it ever sees is rain. Recently I was in need of it and it would not free spool. It still powered in and out, but the free spool lever would not turn.. I got home, checked online, made some calls and eventually opened it up. There was a lot of moisture and corrosion on the inside and that locked up the freespool. I ordered new gaskets and I will try to clean and fix it... I expected more out of a 1000 dollar winch.

Great product, no problems with it and I've had it about 3 years now. I've only used it a handful of times, but I've soaked it in water and mud lots of times. My wife gives me a hard time because I don't use it much, but I tell her it's like insurance.
