Customer Rating Drive Shaft Combo Kit
Date: Feb 05, 2010
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Colorado)
I'm so mad i don't know where to start with this company. First Rusty is a lier and an a@@hole. I have been waiting 3 weeks for a drive shaft. I have called 7 times and each time I get "we will look into and give you a call back". and every time like a dumb a## I say ok. I think we all know the outcome I never get a call back and again I find myself calling back. Now I'm told UPS lost it and it takes 48 hrs to track. They are closed on the weekends so now I have to wait. I think I'm going to call my credit card company and have them cancel it. I try to give people a chance as things happen, but this guys a joke. Save your money and buy local. Best part is he told me just drive your jeep around in 4x4 you don't need the rear drive shaft right away. I could go on and on but I think you get the point.

I ordered the TJ heavy duty steering conversion. This kit burns through rod ends like crazy, pops and jerks when you turn, and wont hold an alignment. Pure junk.

Customer Rating Not Good
Date: Nov 16, 2009
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Athens, GA)
I ordered the 3" springpack lift, HD tie rod and steering box brace for my XJ along with a roof rack from Wilderness products. The lift and steering parts got here in three days which is average shipping time considering I only live about 3.5 hours form their shop. The lift and steering parts appear to be very high quality. The welds and powder coatings were of very high quality. The problem is, the lift would not fit 31" tires as advertised. Not even close. To top it off, it took TWO WEEKS for my roof rack to get here (I paid for three day shipping). When I called Rusty's, I got to talk to Rusty, which I thought was nice, to actually speak with the owner, but he could not provide me with a tracking number or even give me a rough idea about when the roof rack would be here.

When the roof rack finally arrived, it was the wrong size. I called and spoke with Rusty again and his first words were "You bought it, it's yours". I threatened to call my bank and cancel the transaction and he then told me that if I wanted the problem resolved, I had to call the Wilderness Products directly. I told him that that was not acceptable to me and he eventually agreed to call them himself and got them to send the shorter midsection directly to me. He refused to refund my card the difference for what I paid for versus what I will be getting.

Needless to say, I'm not too happy with any of this. I will say that the lift rides really well on the road, much better than stock but I am going to have to buy cutout flares even after buying the .75" coil spacers that Rusty assured me would fix the problem. The Rusty's flares look nice but I would rather chew broken glass than buy anything else from them. I'd rather pay double for Bushwacker than put anymore money in their pockets.

Customer Rating Rustys XJ Heavy Duty Cross Member with 1" drop
Date: Apr 29, 2009
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Bel Air, MD)
Recently, I ordered one of Rusty's XJ Heavy Duty Cross Member w/ integrated 1" drop for reduced drive line angles. On the Rusty's website, it is advertised as a direct replacement for the stock crossmember, which it is; however, what they leave out is that for 2000 and 2001 XJ's w/ 4.0 and AW4, you need to change the tranny mount to a 1998 or earlier isolator. Granted, this is an easy swap of mounts....10 minutes tops. On the other hand, if Rusty's knows that their crossmember requires additional mods on certain year XJ's, why not post that on the site so that the buyer knows ahead of time and doesn't discover it when you have your tranny on a jack stand and your wondering why the F@#$K the holes don't match.

As for the quality, I have no complaints. Great welds and strong especially when considering the great price. Arrived in short time as well. Would recommend the crossmember to others but would also recomment that Rusty's post the known mount issues with 2000 and 2001 XJ's.

Customer Rating Come on guys

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Richmond, VA)
I have ordered from Rusty's on several occasions and I have never had a problem. Ok some of you have had problems with the web and some with part fitment. I know when I started on my first XJ the thing is a Jeep and if thats not enough it's a UNIBODY JEEP. I have built several CJ's and several XJ's and I will continue to order from Rusty but call them and tell them what you are trying to do. That is what you pay for if you talk to them and it is wrong you have a name to refer too. I have never waited more than five days on any order and yes I have had minor fitment issues but if you want a hassle free install pay someone to do it or go buy a new Rubi and wheel it stock. Or better yet build it yourself. I have always gotten better prices talking to someone on the phone, so build it, wheel it and break it and they will make it right try that with some of the other people on the web.

I have installed 1000's of Rusty liftkits, from cj,xj,kj,wj,tj,wk,zj, and 589 Rusty's JK 3 1/4 lift kits (I counted them) and have had very little problems, and when I have Rusty always made them right so I can take care of my customers. Great people who are good hard working folks. If you have a problem, talk to Rusty and he will make it right.

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Arvada, CO)
I am only writing this review because of the ones I just read on this page. I have had a couple of problems with rustys, but still dont have any complaints! They sent me the wrong thing once, and forgot somthing on a different order. People, they are human! If you had to send out hundreds of orders every day, you would screw up once in a while too. As for the quality, I havent found a company with better products. They build their stuff to take serious abuse. And I have never had a fitment issue, the bolt on parts really do bolt on. The posts on this page talking about parts not working or wearing out too fast, also contain multiple typos and terrible grammar. Coinsidence? I think not! Know what you are ordering before you order it; and know how a part works before you try to modify or replace it. I have placed several orders with Rustys, and plan on several more. Remember, "its not the machine, its the operator."

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Greenup, KY)
I'm not one to black top drive my Jeep. It gets used for pleasure and hunting/ fishing. I bought the 3inch lift from Rusty's and Zach helped me and Rusty himself helped me. I will continue to buy from rusty from now on. If wondering if there stuff holds up I use my rev limiter a lot going through mud or climbing a long hill straight up. So yes very well built can take the abuse. And to add its my daily driver and has had one alignment after lifting it that's it.

I thought I had to type this after seeing so many negative reviews. I didn't have a single problem with Rusty's. I called and he helped me with my purchase and it came in the mail in a week or two. His prices are very competitive and I think he does a swell job. Fixing to order his tube bumpers and a winch. I'm not saying some orders get messed up and some of the negative reviews are hogwash but I got alot of buddy's that order parts and they are too impatient....they'll call and hassle the place everyday until their stuff arrives. As for me, I will keep giving Rusty my business.

My fiance and I have 2 jeeps that ALWAYS need a lot of work! Just recently we placed an order for a set of front axles for our one jeep thru the company we USED to use, Quadretec. They "dicked" us around for 2 months until finally I canceled the order and called Rusty's. I asked him if they were in stock and how long it would take and told him I'd be putting in an order online. He said it would be taken care of right away... 2 days later our axles arrived!!! We were thrilled! They're on the jeep and they work BEAUTIFULLY! I thank him so much for his honesty, great parts and wonderful shipping time!!

I ordered the dual steering stabilizer kit for my 99 XJ. It came in fairly quick, but they really screwed up on my order. They gave me all the wrong size mounting brackets, one of the packages of mounting hardware was missing a necessary nut, and the bolt thats supposed to hold one of the stabilizers onto the trac bar, didnt fit into the trac bar. I sent it back over a week ago and still nothing. I will definitly not order from there again.

I ordered a TJ engine/Trans HD skid plate from Rusty's a while back. Putting it on my TJ, there was NO clearance between the crossmember and Y pipe on the exhaust. so all it does now is vibrate and rattle. Along with that my driveshaft would hit the skid bangging up the U-joint straps.

I made a mistake and ordered a exhaust pipe from these guys, ordered a 2 1/2" outlet and ended up getting a 2". had to get it flared at a local muffler shop.

These guys really do not do there homework on any of there products. Haven't nor will I order from these guys again.

I made a purchase on Rusty's website...HUGE MISTAKE!! There was a glitch in the website and my order appeared to NOT go thru. I tried to order again and this time my invoice was blank. I placed my order for the third time with sucess. To my surprise the first order that never showed an invoice DID go thru and I recieved 2 of the same part. When I spoke with Rusty's on the phone the rep told me he would speak with his supervisor about returning the extra item but I NEVER heard back from anyone. A few days later I called again and spoke with a supervisor that treated me like an idiot and said no one had the athority to reimburse me for the return shipping. THAT'S A LOAD OF CRAP! Now I have to pay to return a part I don't even need. RUSTY'S OFFROAD PRODUCTS doesn't even deserve a one star rating!!

Customer Rating Rustys products are crap
Date: Nov 03, 2008
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Dublin, CA)
So i bought a 6.5 long arm kit for my 88 cherokee, which was supposed to direct bolt on for any 84-01 xj with no welding. I got everything in place and bolted up my lower control arms only to find out that they were too long, and now my front axle and tires were wedged against my front fender well. I called up rustys and they said that they would have to custom make me a new set of lower control arms, because their kit is for xjs with automatic transmissions, and mine is a stick. Which is strange because the kit is supposed to fit all 84-01 xjs, no matter what the trans is. Also when i purchased the kit, there was no option to choose what trans i had. So rustys said that i needed to send in my lower control arms so they could modify them to work, or they would send me the parts and i would have to cut the arms and weld on new pats just to make it all fit. Though Rustys would not supply me with any of the dimensions i needed, I.E. how much to cut off, how long the finished product had to be, all they told me over the phone was that it was something i had to figure out for myself. So a week later they sent me the parts only to figure out that they are the wrong parts. Basically Rustys parts are crap, I've been working on putting on this lift kit for over two months, because everything they have sent me didn't bolt up how they guarantied it would, I know others will make the mistake to go with Rustys in the future, but i hope that this post helps them make the right decision.

I fell victim to Rustys, as more will surely do. I just could not learn my lesson. I won't get into it all, but alot of items were purchased over a long period of time and nearly all of them needed modified to fit or would not fit. The quality was terrible. If all these products were actually legit, it would be an awesome one-stop 4x4 shop, too bad its NOT.

Customer Rating Rustys? What to Think
Date: Oct 13, 2008
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Camas, Washington)
I bought my 1997 Jeep Cherokee with a rustys 4.5 inch lift already installed within three months i have needed to replace the tie rids, and bushings. and now my upper arms are wearing and i have the parts and i need to replace them as well. But my springs are going in the back, and this last weekend i was wheeling and my lief springs came loose, and last night i went wheelign again and lost a 1/4 inch of my lief spring, no where to be found, and my axle could of broke if i wouldnt of had friends close by that could fix it. i love my lift, and i love my jeep it takes me anywhere i need to go. and for a girl im tough, but i basically have had to replace all the main body parts over time, and hopefully they dont wear out soon.

so who knows.

I bought Rusty's 4.5 spring pack it came in good time seeing tha i live in Medicine Hat Alberta Canada. When i got it the packageing was tore and parts were falling out but was all there. I installed it in january and buy the time march rolled around i had to replace the bushings in the lower control arms, and they are gone again then by may i had to replace the tie rod in the track bar, then i had lost a inch in one of the rear leaf springs i took him two months to honor his warrenty. So i got a hold of his supplier ( otto max in surry b.c. canada) and delt with them instead of Rusty. Now the shocks i got from Rusty i have to replace now keep in mind this kit is not even one year old and i had to replace alot of parts....I will not deal with Rusty's offroad again.

Customer Rating TJ HD adjsustable track bar
Date: Sep 21, 2008
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Edmonton, Alberta)
I ordered a front adjustable track bar and HD steering from Rusty's. It showed up in good time, but the tie rod on the frame end of the track bar broke off shortly after install. You could see where the tie rod had already been broke from the rust line half way through the threads. Anyways, called Rusty's and they said since I lived in Canada I they would not help me out!! They had no problem taking my money and shipping the stuff to Canada. I also had the HD steering, I have since removed it and put it where it belongs (the garbage) and replaced it with steering from Currie!!

I also bought Bushwacker flares from Rusty. Wish I would have bought his instead. Keep up the good work Rusty.

I ordered a 3" lift for my '01 xj. It showed up in about three days. After installing it, I had the "death wobble" and they were extremely helpful in getting me back on the road. It turned out to be my fault, not Rusty's, but they helped me through it. I have their air tube, their lift and now I installed a Rusty's replacement steering stabilizer because the wobbles wore my original one out. These guys are great, and I will buy from them again. And, you cannot beat their prices! Thanks Rusty!

Customer Rating This stuff is not good
Date: Mar 08, 2008
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Reno, NV)
I ordered the 4.5 spring pack as well as the HD tie rod, dual stabilizer (crap) and the adj. upper control arms. The stuff got here quick but very soon after the install the bushings were shot and the bracket for the dual stabilizer didn't fit the HD tie rod. The HD tie rod is good but the ends suck big time. Also I ordered a spare and rim from them and gave them the benefit of doubt when 1 month went by and it still never got to me. I called them after the month and spoke to Rusty himself. He told me that UPS lost it and that he was looking for it. When I asked him to send out a new one he refused and I threatened to cancel the transaction with my credit card co. He then became irate and started yelling at me and finally sent me a new spare but only after a month had gone by. They didn't even call to let me know, I had to call them. They build garbage. Bottom line is if you are thinking about Rustys then you may as well just build your own kit because that is what you will end up doing anyways after you replace all his crap. R.E. is way better.

Customer Rating tow hooks w/brackets for 96XJ
Date: Feb 23, 2008
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (HiDesert, SoCal)
I ordered these from him a few years ago. They've only had to be used twice for recovery efforts. The first time they held up fine for the extraction side, but getting towed home they got bent from the occasional jerking on acceleration. The second time they bent while pulling me out. But we had to yank pretty hard to get me out... When I ordered them, I got the hooks a couple weeks later, but no brackets. I called him, spoke to Rusty directly and he was a good guy to talk to. He apologized for the error and overnighted me the brackets. I've recently ordered a front end skid/stiffener. Its being delivered to my in-laws house (they frown on large quantities of large packags being delivered to my apartment complex...) so I'll see this weekend whether or not they arrived as part of the big pile of stuff I ordered. Overall happy with the service so far. Only complaint is that the brackets bent. I might pull em off and see about adding some bracing.

Rusty's has been very good for me so far. I have ordered 8.5 in coils, long arm upgrade, skids (transfer and engine),HD track bar, and other odds and ends. I also bought a 4.5 inch lift kit for my father's xj and everything went on great. I have beat and banged on my xj with 37's and have had no problems what-so-ever. I did have a couple problems with hardware not showing up with the product. As far as I could tell that was UPS' fault for the way they handle boxes. Customer is service is great to deal with. Everytimei call I get the their full attention!.

i have had pretty good luck with my rustys parts. i take my cherokee to mexico , canada , go to the sierras a lot and never had anything from Rustys fail me. I dont know if its the configuration i run or just am pretty conservative about my driving. i do go offroad and i dont have a single panel without dents but my suspension never failed me. as far as the xj cherokee is concerned, they could have built it a lot better. i like rusty's stuff. the prices are affordable and i dont have a lot to spend on this stuff yet i get where i need to go no matter what the conditions are like and i am pleased. my cherokee is worth maybe 2000.00 but i have decided to keep it as long as i can because it keeps moving and gets me through the rough stuff thanks to rustys parts. i make sure everything is within spec and do regular maintenance though. things fail when you overlook the obvious. in order to keep everything working right there is a required level of awareness of how everything works. just make sure you do your part by greasing everything.

Customer Rating 4.5 inch spring pack lift for XJ CHEROKEE it a joke
Date: Sep 24, 2007
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Silver Lake, MI)
ya rustys brake line extentions are a joke they wont mount right and i had to have the sway bar extentions costume made because the extentions they give you are like two pieces of channel and four 2inch bolts that wont even work and you do need a drop pitman arm and the kit doesnt come with that either so I had to order that. And the transfer case 1 inch spacers are another story that they want you to use.

I ordered many parts from Rustys Offroad for my project ZJ. I wish I would have done my research 1st! On the phone Rusty was really helpful & made some suggestions during my order. I purchased gears, lockers, the ZJ Long Arm Upgrade, Heavy Duty Adjustable Trac-Bar and Frame Mount and the Upgraded Steering Package with beefier tie rod ends.

The items arrived timely and well packaged. I decided to have the steering and lift kit professionally installed by a reputable and well known company who specializes in building custom chassis and suspensions in Phx, AZ. After the install was complete, the front drive shaft would not clear the new crossmember because the notch was off by about 4 or 5 inches! I called Rusty and he told me that was impossible. He basically called me a liar. So I had the owner of the shop (in this business all of his life) call him. Rusty told him that he wanted to take some measurements on his Grand Cherokee and then call him back. Of course, he never returned the call. I had many conversations with him about the design flaw and he refused to stand by the product. He offered to renotch it at no cost if I paid for the shipping both ways, not to mention the labor to remove and reinstall it! I spent well over $2000 on my order. The cost of labor for the install and the custom work to fix Rusty's kit, which was advertised as "bolt on", was nearly as expensive! Rusty is firm on his no refund policy, regardless of the situation.

The 2nd problem I had was with Rusty's steering upgrades. The new tierods are beefy, but the tierod ends are junk. They had to be replaced within the 1st 500 miles... not offroading miles either! I didn't have a front drive shaft, remember????

Horrible products, dishonest owner and terrible customer service. This project cost me more money than it was really worth in the long run. If your looking to save money, Rusty's is the wrong place! Good luck to you and happy wheeling!

The shipping dept. in lame. I got the rear arms 3.5 week after I got the rest. The cross member didnt fit my tranny mount. the rear mount didnt allow for hardly any upward travel. the arms have no jam nuts on them so they get sloppy.( klunk klunk). The rear springs sank 2.5 inches, He did send me new ones. I Had to put coil spacers in to go on a trip.$35.00 out of my pocket just to use the rig. Over all I'm not as happy as I could be.

I ordered a part for my TJ but it did not fit properly so I returned it and expected a refund. Rusty does NOT give a refund, they only give a credit. Problem IMO they are primarily an XJ distributor and there is little that I can use on a TJ. So now I need to find a club member with an XJ and see if they want a part from Rusty's and "sell" the part to him.

Yea i had Rusty's 4 inch kit on my YJ for about a year before i sold it and it was decent but when i asked if i could get the track bar lowering mount that he added to the kit a month after i bought it he wanted $40 for it even though the price was the same. My friend has a 4.5 inch XJ kit from him and its works ok, with drop bracket for the front sway bar and brake line extension brackets. these work fine but the quality of the parts that came in my 4.5 inch RE XJ kit are alot better. Im running a rustys track bar now on my XJ with 6 inches of lift and has worked fine for the 3 months ive had it. good prices is all i can realy say.

Customer Rating crap

I had my girlfriend order a cat back for my 97 ZJ. First, the pic had a chrome tip that wasnt included. Second, the tail pipe was 4 inches short. Third, the tail pipe was only 2 1/4 in, not 2 1/2 like described.

Their nice on the phone but will sell you crap.

Customer Rating driveshaft ordering problems
Date: Nov 22, 2005
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Dover, DE)
Rusty is a very pleasent man to speak with on the phone as I have had the chance to do on many occations. The driveshaft I ordered took a month and a half to get when it was promised in a week. He ordered it from Tom Woods but when I talked to Tom my shaft had not been ordered. Then there was a back order and then it was in his shipment and then it was...etc. Lie after lie but pleasent every step of the way. If I had to do it again I would buy it from Tom Woods directly or Jesse at Highangle driveline, but nothing more from Rusty's offroad

Customer Rating Rusty's Engine Skid
Date: Jul 11, 2005
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Shreveport)
I bought a Rusty's Engine Skid brand new but not from Rusty. It came to me brand new never installed but with no hardware. So I called up Rusty showed him the exact skid I had and he sent me the hardware. $50 including the bracket which seemed high to me but oh well. Got the bracket in and they forgot to drill out the holes.

Put everything in place under my Jeep for a test fitting and WOW - nothing lined up. The skid was miscut in four places and the pre-drilled holes did not line up either.

A friend of mine who has a ton of Rusty's stuff under his XJ called and emailed Rusty several times but we never got anywhere with him. Even after he asked for pics. Nothing.

So we had to cut out four new notches for where the bracket fits across the skid and in the back where it meets the t-case skid. I had to drill six new holes through very thick steel. Two through my stock t-case skid.

We had to slide it as far over as possible away from the front driveshaft and still cover the oil pan. But in full drop - my driveshaft still hits the skid. So we have to do something else to it.

Now I had to buy a sure-drain drain plug to get the oil out since the hole is not aligned with the drain plug. ($20 shipped.) I had to buy a 1/2" drill b/c mine was too small and cordless was too weak to drill that stuff. ($80) So so far I spent $250 due to skid plate and I still have to have someone do the welding for me for the next modification.

I hate to bash anybody, but I am so disgusted by this ordeal. The only reason I gave as many stars as I did was b/c though the customer service was tragic and the product was cut all wrong, the skid was definately built tough. Same with the mounting bracket.

Worst part is, my friends Rusty's Control arm bushings are worn out already and last I heard, he had not responded to him about those. I hope it is not b/c he was dealing with Rusty on my skid issue.

I may have gotten the one bad skid all year, but customer service could have been much better. Just buy somewhere else and don't take a chance.

Customer Rating nice guy but quality of parts is questionable

Ordered an adjustable track-bar from Rusty years ago. Taked on the phone, felt good about my purchase, price was great - order arrived just a few days later.

Within a few months the ball joint had begun to fail. Called Rusty and he said a "bad batch" of joints got out - he overnighted me a new one without me even asking. Very nice gesture indeed.

The second joint lasted a wee bit longer as compared to the first but still it failed. Will I ever order another track-bar from Rusty...no.

There are other parts I would consider ordering though since Rusty did his best to take care of me.
