Great parts
Date: Apr 22, 2008
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Pueblo, Colorado)

I installed a Rusty's 4.5" lift,Rusty's heavy duty tie rod kit on my 93 xj. These parts are great. I got the complete spring lift and installed myself. The alignment shop installed the tierod kit. I also bought Bushwacker flares from Rusty. Wish I would have bought his instead. Keep up the good work Rusty.

Great parts, built right and Excellant customer service!

I ordered a 3" lift for my '01 xj. It showed up in about three days. After installing it, I had the "death wobble" and they were extremely helpful in getting me back on the road. It turned out to be my fault, not Rusty's, but they helped me through it. I have their air tube, their lift and now I installed a Rusty's replacement steering stabilizer because the wobbles wore my original one out. These guys are great, and I will buy from them again. And, you cannot beat their prices! Thanks Rusty!

This stuff is not good
Date: Mar 08, 2008
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Reno, NV)

I ordered the 4.5 spring pack as well as the HD tie rod, dual stabilizer (crap) and the adj. upper control arms. The stuff got here quick but very soon after the install the bushings were shot and the bracket for the dual stabilizer didn't fit the HD tie rod. The HD tie rod is good but the ends suck big time. Also I ordered a spare and rim from them and gave them the benefit of doubt when 1 month went by and it still never got to me. I called them after the month and spoke to Rusty himself. He told me that UPS lost it and that he was looking for it. When I asked him to send out a new one he refused and I threatened to cancel the transaction with my credit card co. He then became irate and started yelling at me and finally sent me a new spare but only after a month had gone by. They didn't even call to let me know, I had to call them. They build garbage. Bottom line is if you are thinking about Rustys then you may as well just build your own kit because that is what you will end up doing anyways after you replace all his crap. R.E. is way better.

tow hooks w/brackets for 96XJ
Date: Feb 23, 2008
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (HiDesert, SoCal)

I ordered these from him a few years ago. They've only had to be used twice for recovery efforts. The first time they held up fine for the extraction side, but getting towed home they got bent from the occasional jerking on acceleration. The second time they bent while pulling me out. But we had to yank pretty hard to get me out... When I ordered them, I got the hooks a couple weeks later, but no brackets. I called him, spoke to Rusty directly and he was a good guy to talk to. He apologized for the error and overnighted me the brackets. I've recently ordered a front end skid/stiffener. Its being delivered to my in-laws house (they frown on large quantities of large packags being delivered to my apartment complex...) so I'll see this weekend whether or not they arrived as part of the big pile of stuff I ordered. Overall happy with the service so far. Only complaint is that the brackets bent. I might pull em off and see about adding some bracing.

Good so far

Rusty's has been very good for me so far. I have ordered 8.5 in coils, long arm upgrade, skids (transfer and engine),HD track bar, and other odds and ends. I also bought a 4.5 inch lift kit for my father's xj and everything went on great. I have beat and banged on my xj with 37's and have had no problems what-so-ever. I did have a couple problems with hardware not showing up with the product. As far as I could tell that was UPS' fault for the way they handle boxes. Customer is service is great to deal with. Everytimei call I get the their full attention!.

good prices and good parts

i have had pretty good luck with my rustys parts. i take my cherokee to mexico , canada , go to the sierras a lot and never had anything from Rustys fail me. I dont know if its the configuration i run or just am pretty conservative about my driving. i do go offroad and i dont have a single panel without dents but my suspension never failed me. as far as the xj cherokee is concerned, they could have built it a lot better. i like rusty's stuff. the prices are affordable and i dont have a lot to spend on this stuff yet i get where i need to go no matter what the conditions are like and i am pleased. my cherokee is worth maybe 2000.00 but i have decided to keep it as long as i can because it keeps moving and gets me through the rough stuff thanks to rustys parts. i make sure everything is within spec and do regular maintenance though. things fail when you overlook the obvious. in order to keep everything working right there is a required level of awareness of how everything works. just make sure you do your part by greasing everything.

4.5 inch spring pack lift for XJ CHEROKEE it a joke
Date: Sep 24, 2007
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Silver Lake, MI)

ya rustys brake line extentions are a joke they wont mount right and i had to have the sway bar extentions costume made because the extentions they give you are like two pieces of channel and four 2inch bolts that wont even work and you do need a drop pitman arm and the kit doesnt come with that either so I had to order that. And the transfer case 1 inch spacers are another story that they want you to use.

I would rate my experience 0 stars if possible.

I ordered many parts from Rustys Offroad for my project ZJ. I wish I would have done my research 1st! On the phone Rusty was really helpful & made some suggestions during my order. I purchased gears, lockers, the ZJ Long Arm Upgrade, Heavy Duty Adjustable Trac-Bar and Frame Mount and the Upgraded Steering Package with beefier tie rod ends.

The items arrived timely and well packaged. I decided to have the steering and lift kit professionally installed by a reputable and well known company who specializes in building custom chassis and suspensions in Phx, AZ. After the install was complete, the front drive shaft would not clear the new crossmember because the notch was off by about 4 or 5 inches! I called Rusty and he told me that was impossible. He basically called me a liar. So I had the owner of the shop (in this business all of his life) call him. Rusty told him that he wanted to take some measurements on his Grand Cherokee and then call him back. Of course, he never returned the call. I had many conversations with him about the design flaw and he refused to stand by the product. He offered to renotch it at no cost if I paid for the shipping both ways, not to mention the labor to remove and reinstall it! I spent well over $2000 on my order. The cost of labor for the install and the custom work to fix Rusty's kit, which was advertised as "bolt on", was nearly as expensive! Rusty is firm on his no refund policy, regardless of the situation.

The 2nd problem I had was with Rusty's steering upgrades. The new tierods are beefy, but the tierod ends are junk. They had to be replaced within the 1st 500 miles... not offroading miles either! I didn't have a front drive shaft, remember????

Horrible products, dishonest owner and terrible customer service. This project cost me more money than it was really worth in the long run. If your looking to save money, Rusty's is the wrong place! Good luck to you and happy wheeling!

Lie - Lie - more Lies

Ordered sveral pieces from them and have had nothing but trouble when you finally get them. There is no testing or quality control just made up stuff. Parts they market are cheap copies from someone else's hard work. I am surprised they have not been called to task with questionable if not false advertising!

Kind of disapointed

The shipping dept. in lame. I got the rear arms 3.5 week after I got the rest. The cross member didnt fit my tranny mount. the rear mount didnt allow for hardly any upward travel. the arms have no jam nuts on them so they get sloppy.( klunk klunk). The rear springs sank 2.5 inches, He did send me new ones. I Had to put coil spacers in to go on a trip.$35.00 out of my pocket just to use the rig. Over all I'm not as happy as I could be.

No refund only credit
Date: Nov 14, 2006
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Conway, SC)

I ordered a part for my TJ but it did not fit properly so I returned it and expected a refund. Rusty does NOT give a refund, they only give a credit. Problem IMO they are primarily an XJ distributor and there is little that I can use on a TJ. So now I need to find a club member with an XJ and see if they want a part from Rusty's and "sell" the part to him.

Good and Bad

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (myrtle beach SC)

Yea i had Rusty's 4 inch kit on my YJ for about a year before i sold it and it was decent but when i asked if i could get the track bar lowering mount that he added to the kit a month after i bought it he wanted $40 for it even though the price was the same. My friend has a 4.5 inch XJ kit from him and its works ok, with drop bracket for the front sway bar and brake line extension brackets. these work fine but the quality of the parts that came in my 4.5 inch RE XJ kit are alot better. Im running a rustys track bar now on my XJ with 6 inches of lift and has worked fine for the 3 months ive had it. good prices is all i can realy say.

crap
Date: Dec 31, 2005
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (arlington, va)

I had my girlfriend order a cat back for my 97 ZJ. First, the pic had a chrome tip that wasnt included. Second, the tail pipe was 4 inches short. Third, the tail pipe was only 2 1/4 in, not 2 1/2 like described.

Their nice on the phone but will sell you crap.

driveshaft ordering problems
Date: Nov 22, 2005
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Dover, DE)

Rusty is a very pleasent man to speak with on the phone as I have had the chance to do on many occations. The driveshaft I ordered took a month and a half to get when it was promised in a week. He ordered it from Tom Woods but when I talked to Tom my shaft had not been ordered. Then there was a back order and then it was in his shipment and then it was...etc. Lie after lie but pleasent every step of the way. If I had to do it again I would buy it from Tom Woods directly or Jesse at Highangle driveline, but nothing more from Rusty's offroad

Rusty's Engine Skid
Date: Jul 11, 2005
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Shreveport)

I bought a Rusty's Engine Skid brand new but not from Rusty. It came to me brand new never installed but with no hardware. So I called up Rusty showed him the exact skid I had and he sent me the hardware. $50 including the bracket which seemed high to me but oh well. Got the bracket in and they forgot to drill out the holes.

Put everything in place under my Jeep for a test fitting and WOW - nothing lined up. The skid was miscut in four places and the pre-drilled holes did not line up either.

A friend of mine who has a ton of Rusty's stuff under his XJ called and emailed Rusty several times but we never got anywhere with him. Even after he asked for pics. Nothing.

So we had to cut out four new notches for where the bracket fits across the skid and in the back where it meets the t-case skid. I had to drill six new holes through very thick steel. Two through my stock t-case skid.

We had to slide it as far over as possible away from the front driveshaft and still cover the oil pan. But in full drop - my driveshaft still hits the skid. So we have to do something else to it.

Now I had to buy a sure-drain drain plug to get the oil out since the hole is not aligned with the drain plug. ($20 shipped.) I had to buy a 1/2" drill b/c mine was too small and cordless was too weak to drill that stuff. ($80) So so far I spent $250 due to skid plate and I still have to have someone do the welding for me for the next modification.

I hate to bash anybody, but I am so disgusted by this ordeal. The only reason I gave as many stars as I did was b/c though the customer service was tragic and the product was cut all wrong, the skid was definately built tough. Same with the mounting bracket.

Worst part is, my friends Rusty's Control arm bushings are worn out already and last I heard, he had not responded to him about those. I hope it is not b/c he was dealing with Rusty on my skid issue.

I may have gotten the one bad skid all year, but customer service could have been much better. Just buy somewhere else and don't take a chance.

nice guy but quality of parts is questionable
Date: Sep 22, 2004
Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Yorktown, VA)

Ordered an adjustable track-bar from Rusty years ago. Taked on the phone, felt good about my purchase, price was great - order arrived just a few days later.

Within a few months the ball joint had begun to fail. Called Rusty and he said a "bad batch" of joints got out - he overnighted me a new one without me even asking. Very nice gesture indeed.

The second joint lasted a wee bit longer as compared to the first but still it failed. Will I ever order another track-bar from Rusty...no.

There are other parts I would consider ordering though since Rusty did his best to take care of me.
