Auburn Gear ECTED Electric Locker

Brand: Auburn Gear
Features: Auburn Gear's ECTED (Electronically Controlled Traction Enhancing Differential) can be engaged or disengaged by flipping a switch inside your Jeep. When the switch is on, power is transmitted to the electromagnetic coil that creates a magnetic field which engages and compresses the clutch pack to lock the axle for offroad use. When the locker switch is turned off, the axle returns to limited slip mode. The limited slip mode is great for daily driving and mild offroading. The Auburn electric locker can be turned on or off on the fly while driving at moderate speeds. Locker is constructed from aircraft quality steel and comes complete with both wiring harness and switch.

Have an ected max in a ford ranger, rear axle. Will stay locked under moderate pressure and releases when under a lot of pressure (when you really need it). Havent contacted Auburn yet but from other reviews it doesnt sound like thathelps much. Live and learn.

Customer Rating Auburn and the ECTED are junk

I have a 1989 wrangler. Had the ECTED professionally installed with 30 spline alloy shafts. The first one locked and stayed locked. That one was found to be defective so I got another from Aurburn only to pay another 250 dollars to have that one installed. That one makes all kinds of clunking and binding noises. Auburn doesn't even have the common courtesy to return my emails. Don't buy anything Auburn. Save your money or get something that actually works.

I have replaced 3 in about 3 years. I do moderate off roading with 32" tires. The second one locked up and remainded locked until replaced. The current one makes all sorts of noise, the pin is wearing out. Total junk.

I went through all of the changes of putting this locker in my TJ. Special ordered the bearings for the locker. Pressed them on. And by the way it was suppose to be a direct drop in. The bolt holes to connect the ring gear to the locker were too small and we had to drill them out to make it fit. Put the locker in and had to grind out the axle housing to make the locker fit. Put new axle bearings, pinion bearings and all new seals in when we initially installed the locker. It hasn't been in my jeep a year and we have had to replace the axle bearings once, both wheel seals twice and I have a third wheel seal leaking right now. With the locker engaged it works great. With it disengaged it eats axle bearings and wheel seals. It has become hard to make turns and I intend to remove this crap. DON'T invest $1000+ of your hard earned dollars for this bullsh*t.

Customer Rating Auburn locker wont unlock

Reviewer: A JeepReviews.com User from (Price, UT)
We purchased this locker for the front because we believed it would be safer for driving on paved roads to be able to lock and unlock. Simply put, the locker never locks completely in place so it is useless when really needed and then really dangerous on pavement because it will not unlock completely and will pull the steering wheel to the right. Never fully locks and never fully unlocks. Contacted auburn and they said that more use would help the problem, so instead of getting it out we waited, now it is to late to return it and it even with use it never gets any better. Auburn should try to remedy the problem or stop selling them because we all seem to have the same problem.

Customer Rating Watch your tire size

Have not tried this on smaller tires but 2 ected H have sold to people on 36" tires failed. Auburn say dynamic engagement (wheel spin while being enguaged) but we can tell by looking at the damage that this can happen if not fully enguaged. The tabs can get stuck half enguaged and it will break the corners off of the tabs thet keep the unit locked. This may happen by turing on and off too much. My advise would be to turn before you need it and leave on untill wheeling is all done.
