Who would pay over $80,000 for this “Jeep?”

Jeep CJ-3B

I stumbled across an article recently in The New York Times about a guy who builds custom "Jeep" CJ3Bs for $80,000+. $80,000!!..are you kidding me? Personally, if I'm going to pay over $80K for a vehicle, it's not going to have BFG All Terrains on $40 black steelies. And, if it's a Jeep CJ-3B it's going to be ORIGINAL...and probably end up costing about $65,000-$70,000 LESS than this!! Seems a little sacrilegious (IMO) to call something a Jeep and not even have a 7-slot grill on it. They say there's "a sucker born every minute." Well, apparently some of them must be buying these $80,000+ "Jeeps" to keep this company in business.

What would you buy with $80,000?

For $80K, I’d buy–and build–a TJ and have $50-$60K left over to buy a few more Jeeps.

The ugly grill is more than likely used because use of a 7-slot grill would result in the guy being sued into oblivion.

We had 1 of these (original) that we left at the hunting club 25+ years. Best thing for the S.C. swamps. But then we discovered 4wheelers. The old Jeep sat under the shed most of the time and Daddy finally gave it to some farmer to use on his farm. I would have to say, I would rather have that old one than this new one. The fenders were wider and when you put the windshield down ( gun rack installed on windshield) you could PLOW thru a briar patch and the briars would part like you were riding on the back of a middlebuster plow. When we got it, it had a PTO running out the back, because someone had been using it to farm wiith instead of a tractor. I still wish sometimes that we still had it, just for sentimental reasons.
